Water Quality / Stormwater Information

Stormwater Pipes"Stormwater runoff" is rain water or melted snow that runs off the land and enters lakes, rivers,  stream and ponds.  As it movesFish stormdrain label across the land, it picks up and carries pollutants into the water.  It can also cause increased erosion, resulting in more soil being carried into surface water.  Both of these situations can degrade water quality because there are no filters nor treatments for stormwater before it enters a stream.  Many water contaminants enter our waterways through stormdrains.

Stormdrain labeling events are part of public education efforts to address the issue of stormdrain pollution, which occurs from people's everyday activities on the land.  The labels remind people that pollutants flush down the stormdrains and flow directly into a nearby waterway.  If you are a concerned person or would like to gather citizens from your own community, contact Dona Rhea.  The events start in the spring and last into the fall season.
