Streams and Watershed Program
A WATERSHED is all the land that water flows across or under on its way to a stream, river, lake, or any other specified point (USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service). Watersheds can be of all sizes - ranging from your backyard, to all the land draining to the Ohio River. Every watershed is important, and since we all live in a watershed, our actions can help protect and maintain the quality of water from our backyard to the Ohio! Focusing on the watersheds in Delaware County will give us a better understanding of our local water resources.

All of Delaware County (292,717 acres) is located within the Upper Scioto River watershed, which drains directly into the Ohio River. From data collected by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Upper Scioto River watershed drains a total of 2,029,081 acres or 3170 square miles, and contains 37 distinct major rivers and streams in Delaware. There is a total of 11,220 acres of reservoirs and lakes within the watershed. There are 4031 miles of rivers and streams, with 2055 miles being perennial rivers and streams.
